We’re pleased to share an update on the exciting progress being made as part of Phase 2 of our redevelopment. Since works began on 28th April, our appointed contractors, Pave-Aways Limited, have made strong early progress across a few key areas of the building.
These works mark a significant step forward in realising our long-term vision to enhance our facilities and deliver even greater value to our community.
🛠️ Studio Space Transformation In Progress
One of the most notable developments so far has taken place in our studio space, which is currently undergoing a major transformation.
What was previously three smaller rooms has now been fully opened into a single, flexible space. This new layout will enable a wider variety of activities and use cases in the future.
Alongside this, preparations have begun to raise the floor level so that it aligns with the rest of the first floor, improving useability and accessibility. Structural support beams have already been installed as part of this work, setting the way for this change.
☕ Ground Floor Developments
Elsewhere in the building, important internal works have begun within our café area. To support changes planned for the rest of the building, structural alterations are being made to the café’s back-of-house. This includes the removal and reconstruction of the wall between the servery and kitchen area, vital for load-bearing improvements and other planned works.
🚽 Alterations to Gents toilets
As part of ground floor alterations, a slight reconfiguration has also been made to the gents’ toilet area, which has been modestly reduced in size but remains fully functional and appropriately resourced. As part of the wider redevelopment, additional toilet facilities will be installed on each level of the building.
🧱 Other Works Underway
Progress continues in other areas, including:
- Internal brickwork to consolidate changes in studio layout
- Refurbishment of walkways and adjoining spaces
- Preparations for future utilities and supporting works
🔭 Looking Ahead
Whilst we have only just begun, the progress achieved so far has been rapid, and each change brings us closer to delivering a facility that reflects the creativity, resilience, and ambition of our community.
The realisation of this vision has been years in the making, and it is thanks to the support of our board, staff, volunteers, partners, and the community that we are now turning this shared vision into reality.
